![]() By playing the keypad using the right hand with, for example, the Alt key UP, notes would be entered. The focus of the first pass is to enter the rhythm correctly. ![]() ![]() My standpoint is that of a musician 'playing' the numeric keypad. Some of the notes would, indeed, be rests and would need to be identified and changed on the second pass from the MIDI keyboard. I am now confused! If I understand you correctly the first pass (using the numeric keyboard) would result in a line of, say, middle-C notes of varying durations without any rest symbols displayed. But it's certainly not out of the question if enough people voice support for this and some motivated programmer decides to tackle it. So between those two facts, I'd say that's why it hasn't been implemented. I don't know that I've seen people arguing for this type of input method, and also it seems that even with the improvement you describe, it's still guaranteed to be twice as slow as the usual method in which you can get the pitch and duration simultaneously. It's six of one, half dozen of the other if the piece is mostly the same rhythmic value (eg, lots of eighth notes), but if the rhythms are more complex, your method is somewhat more efficient because you don't need to type the dummy pitch. ![]() I guess the only difference I can see is that in the method you describe, you *just* press the duration key, whereas in MuseScore, you type than *and* a pitch, even if just a dummy pitch. Not sure how what you are seeing this differing significantly from what you can already do, then - as you say, there is already a "replace pitches" function. ![]()

![]() Play through a story that spans three characters with their own unique paths and playstyles. Brave Earth: Prologue's beautiful, handcrafted levels are filled with meticulously placed challenges, aiming to engage players more than frustrate them. While heavily inspired by classic games such as Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden, Brave Earth: Prologue strikes its own balance between methodical, high risk gameplay and aggressive, fast-paced action. I can’t wait for you all to experience it.Brave Earth: Prologue is a challenging and engaging action platformer, made in the 8-bit style of the NES. This game is a masterpiece of 8-bit era game design and it vastly raises the bar in my eyes as a gamer. I couldn’t be more proud to work with a talented developer like Kayin. To find that depth of setting in a game with so much attention paid to the gameplay balance is impressive to say the least. While level-based rather than open world, BEP still gave me a powerful sense of progress, journey and adventure. It’s remarkable that the game also leads the player along a logical path through the game’s world, with three totally different playable characters, no less. This is not a game meant to trick you cleverly, but rather to masterfully utilize a comprehensive understanding of what makes for a satisfying challenge. In Brave Earth: Prologue, by contrast, traps and obstacles are laid bare before you. It was almost as much a commentary on game design in a meta sense as it was a clever arrangement of platforming puzzles. Traps spring up and invisible blocks bar your path, leading to your frequent death. I Wanna Be the Guy was a game that was completely designed around it. Kayin’s complete understanding of player psychology is as enviable as it is rare in game development. It doesn’t come as any surprise to me considering his previous work, but in no time at all I got the feeling that he was in my own head in a sense. The pixel art in BEP is excellent, but what I have found to stand out and amaze me in this game is the meticulous care that Kayin put into designing the encounters. I’ve said in other places how happy I am for pixel art to have made a come back with the independent development scene. I’m both pleased and proud to present Brave Earth: Prologue. But the product I'm releasing is more than just emulation. The game was originally conceived to be a freeware "study" game for me - learning through emulation. Thus catching Kuro and her children unaware.Īnd Gumo was able to revive Naru because that light - the same light that Ori was carrying around through the Forlorn Ruins - was stated to be the Spirit Tree's light, given to the Gumon so they could build their gravity-defying structures. As for why that happened, it can be assumed that the Spirit Tree was extending his light much further out than normal in his attempt to call out to Ori. That's likely how Kuro and her last egg both still survived even when her other children were killed. Well, it's assumed that the Spirit Tree and his children are all beings of light while Kuro and her children were all beings of darkness - not as a representation of good and evil so much as two differing energies that are not compatible beyond a certain level of tolerance. ![]() ![]() ![]() Another variation includes "THE WITCH HUNTS ARE OVER" used in the Bayonetta series. The 1980 arcade game Missile Command uses "The End", a game over screen that is usually seen upon achieving victory. The 2020 Nintendo 3DS game The Queen TV-Game 2 uses "FUCK" to parody player frustration. "GOOD NIGHT" seen in Klonoa and Luigi's Mansion. "YOU DIED" seen in Dark Souls, Cuphead, and Minecraft. Screens that display at equivalent points are considered "Game over" screens, even if the message that is displayed is entirely different, such as "YOU ARE DEAD" used in Resident Evil, God of War, and Left 4 Dead. Antarctic Adventure and Sonic the Hedgehog use "TIME OVER". and Nights: Journey of Dreams use "NIGHT OVER". ![]() For instance in Little King's Story, the message "LIFE OVER" appears upon the death of the player's character. Roguelikes are the most common exception to this rule permadeath is often a staple of the genre. Many modern games do not technically "end" until they are completed, and although "Game over" screens remain present in many of them in some form or another, it is uncommon for them to signify a forced return to the beginning of the game, and only marginally more common for them to signify a substantial loss of progress. With the development of the aforementioned save function (complemented by the less popular password system, which is now seen as archaic), the Game Over message has become less common as players are allowed to respawn at a previous state of the game, which has been stored in memory either through a player deliberately saving the game or reaching a checkpoint (which causes the game to save automatically). In case "game over" is on top of "continue", any cursor would have to be properly positioned to get the desired choice. However, the concept of Game Over remained imbued in the medium thereafter as a way to add an element of risk: a player who is unsuccessful at carrying out the game's objective (possibly repeatedly) will be faced with such a screen and be forced to start over from either the beginning of the game or level, or to a previous, saved state.Ĭertain games ask players with no more lives to continue or to choose "game over" in a menu. The message can also be seen flashing on certain arcade games while in attract mode, until a player inserts a credit at this point the message would change to the number of credits inserted and "Press 1 or 2 player start", or some variation thereof.Īs these games were ported to home consoles, the "Game over" screen and "Continue?" prompt remained, but often required only the press of a button to keep the game going while the video game industry shifted away from being arcade-focused to being home gaming-focused, the inclusion of such a screen was no longer as critical since it offered no financial benefit. The phrase might also be followed by the message "Play Again?" and a prompt asking the player to insert additional tokens to prevent the game from terminating and instead allowing the player to continue their progress. ĭuring the golden age of arcade video games, players would usually be given a finite number of lives (or attempts) to progress through the game, the exhaustion of which would usually result in the display of the message "Game over" indicating that the game had ended. Most early arcade video games typically had the game end when a timer ran out, with shoot 'em up game Space Invaders (1978) later popularizing a game over triggered by the player getting killed by enemies (either by being shot or enemies reaching the player), with the player given a finite number of lives before the game ends. Before the advent of home consoles and personal computing, arcades were the predominant platform for playing games, which required users to deposit a token or coin into an arcade game machine to play. The phrase was used as early as 1950 in devices such as electro-mechanical pinball machines, which would light up the phrase with a lamp (lightbulb). The phrase has since been turned into quasi-slang, usually describing an event that will cause significant harm, injury, bad luck, or even death to a person. However, it sometimes also appears after the successful completion of a game, usually ones designed for arcades. It is usually received negatively in a situation where continued play is disallowed, such as losing all of one's lives or failing a critical objective. ![]() " Game over" is a message in video games which signals to the player that the game and an attempt of playing the level has ended. Some players take on their roles as potential role models as a secondary mission. I acknowledged his compliment and told him that being a Father of a 12-year old Son, I was more thankful for him being who he was as a person, more so than a golfer. It was not until the middle of the fairway on #1 that Rory engaged me, saying thanks for walking along and assisting his team. I was most interested in Rory’s preparation to earn his career Grand Slam this April, which Michael assured me was well on track. 2 or 3 times throughout the round, both JP and Michael shared some general conversation with me about Rory. Rory made it a point to personally introduce himself to the group without someone else formally introducing him first, which is typically the custom. He maintains this wrist position all the way through the stroke, the method espoused by putting guru Dave Stockton. When putting, Erik Compton’s grip is standard-issue: nice and neutral, with the back of his left hand pointed down the target line. This keeps the hands from flipping too quickly, producing a “block” action that actually straightens his shots. How does Compton prevent a nasty hook with such a strong grip? Like many players with similar styles, his hands lag a bit behind the hips coming into impact. By comparison, a neutral grip “V” points much closer to the sternum. ![]() His left and right hands are both turned noticeably on the handle, with the right hand’s “V” (formed by thumb and forefinger) pointing at his right shoulder. Games like the Civilization series, or Cities: Skylines can really push your CPU to the max. CPU Intensive GamesĬertain games require a ton of processing power and are good options to see how your new system’s CPU is handling its load. And, many feel that IntelBurn Test puts even more unnecessary stress on your processor than Prime95 does. Like Prime95, IntelBurn Test also gets some flack for pushing the processor further than necessary. IntelBurn Test is another CPU stress testing tool that will help you push your CPU to the max in order to determine if it is stable. There is a 30-day free trial, though, so if you only need to use it right now then you won’t have to pay for it. For a basic license (that can be used on up to 3 computers), Aida64 costs $34.99 which, while not expensive, is probably not an ideal option for the majority of users who will only use the stress test a handful of times. The only problem with Aida64 is that it isn’t free. Whereas Prime95’s torture test can push your processor to operate in an unrealistic manner, Aida64 takes a more practical approach by mimicking real-world processes that place a 100% load on your processor to test how it will hold up. However, while Prime95 was originally intended to find Mersenne prime numbers, the torture test that is included in the program (which helps ensure correct operation when searching for Mersenne prime numbers) has been adopted by many hardware enthusiasts to help them stress test their processor (and memory)-especially after overclocking their CPU and memory.Īida64 is another CPU stress test tool that a lot of users prefer over Prime95.
